Chloroquin
Chloroquin gilt als Mittel der Wahl zur Therapie und Prophylaxe der Malaria. Bei nicht genau geklärtem Wirkungsmechanismus wirkt es blutschizontozid und antirheumatisch. So wird es auch zur Behandlung rheumatologischer Erkrankungen wie der Rheumatoiden Arthritis oder dem Lupus erythematodes angewendet. Eine seltene, aber gefürchtete Komplikation ist die irreversible Retinopathie mit Erblindung. Daher sind während der Therapie regelmäßige augenärztliche Kontrollen nötig. Bei Resistenzen ist Mefloquin ein Reservepräparat der Malariatherapie.
